Corporate brand for a science accelerator
Motherlabs makes a property offer feel like the beginning of an experiment.
DNCO created a distinct corporate brand for Motherlabs, ARC’s accelerator spaces for small science businesses in London. The identity was designed to appeal to early-stage science companies while maintaining a clear relationship with the parent ARC brand. DNCO developed the name, positioning line “The Science Accelerator,” and a visual system that balances independence with family resemblance through shared typography, colour and tone. A looping “M” wordmark expresses momentum, ambition and the relentless energy of start-up science. The result is a brand that helps ARC speak to a more focused audience while reinforcing its wider reputation in science and innovation.
Insights- Motherlabs is an unusually efficient name. It explains incubation, care and scientific infrastructure in one word, while The Science Accelerator tells a young company exactly what the offer is for.
- The looping M turns momentum into a repeatable behaviour. It works inside the wordmark, scales into a supergraphic and creates a recognisable frame without introducing a separate icon.
- Saturated portraits and electronic textures reject the sterile white laboratory cliché. They place science closer to the restless culture of a start up, which makes the real estate offer feel active rather than institutional.
- Shared typography, colour and tone preserve a visible link to ARC. The balance is smart: the parent supplies credibility, while the name, looping mark and louder imagery give Motherlabs enough independence to address much smaller companies.
