Brand Identity for a Synthetic Biology Nonprofit
Mucho starts Biotic’s visual system with one dot.
Mucho created Biotic’s brand identity around its work on SpudCell, a synthetic-cell research initiative. A single-dot logo extends into generative reaction-diffusion imagery, while a live Bloomsday clock references 2050 as part of the studio’s urgency narrative.
Insights- Mucho’s “Ex Uno Plures” (“Out of one, many”) idea runs through the identity: the dot is both the mark and the visual starting point for forms that grow and multiply.
- Mucho used reaction-diffusion software created by Karl Sims for still illustrations and animations, building a recurring image language from one point into spreading patterns.
- A black-and-white palette gives the initial identity a deliberately minimal base; Mucho says color can be introduced as Biotic and its science develop.
- Mucho’s live “Bloomsday” clock turns its urgency framing into a website element: it counts down across time zones to 2050, a date the studio connects to a resource-sufficiency projection.
