Our main point of inspiration is Central Park, adjacent to the hotel.
Colours are directly inspired by the park, to give a flexibility and range to the identity we developed a unique colour palette for every season.
As the hotel, designed by Emery Roth & Sons, bridges the gap between modernism and postmodernism, so does our identity.
The Brand Identity’s interview with Koto New York designer Vanessa Hopkins explores her career path, creative philosophy, and approach to maintaining joy and balance in design. Hopkins reflects on her journey from studying engineering to working at Mother Design and Wolff Olins before joining Koto, where she values the studio’s youthful energy and collaborative culture. She discusses overcoming imposter syndrome, the influence of mentors, and the importance of playfulness and boundaries in sustaining creativity.
Mother Design created a new brand identity for New York’s Park Lane Hotel, reimagining its uptown luxury through an eccentric and organic visual system inspired by Central Park and the building’s architecture. The project features a custom wordmark, seasonal color palettes, and the use of Folio typeface to balance whimsy with modernist sophistication.
