Identity refresh for a Kyiv theatre
The mask was already on the building. Spiilka taught it to look back.
Spiilka Design Büro refreshed the identity of the Kyiv National Academic Molodyi Theatre, a cultural institution known for bold views, sincerity, and progressiveness. To capture the theatre’s character accurately, Spiilka Design Büro spoke with artistic director Stanislav Moiseiev, the team, and the actors to understand how they see themselves and what mood they want to share with audiences. The renewed identity keeps Melpomene as its foundation, reflecting a symbol that already lives within the theatre’s walls. The figure was updated while remaining true to itself, and it now carries both allegorical and metaphorical meaning, representing the exchange of views, dialogue between theatre and audience, and the act of observation itself.
