Brand Identity And Design System For A Robotics Software Company

Robotics websites are always sterile white. The reality is a soldering iron, a scorched chip and a few swear words.

Studio Gruhl developed a brand identity and digital design system for Rerun, an open-source platform that helps robotics teams visualize and analyze their data. The identity balances the analytical precision of robotics with the human creativity behind it, using geometric forms, industrial textures, and color palettes inspired by how robots perceive the world.

Insights
  • Studio Gruhl built the identity for Rerun, an open-source platform for visualizing "what robots see."
  • It rejects the default sterile-white robotics aesthetic for a human story — the workshop of bolts and soldering irons, not the clinical lab.
  • The wordmark's geometry is lifted from the head of a bolt; the central lowercase "e" is faceted into angular forms echoed by every second letter.
  • The palette is the scientific Jet colormap and its smoother sibling Turbo — literally "how robots see the world" — grounded with noir, sandpaper and white.
  • The identity holds both sides at once: hard analytical engineering and warm human craft, every element rooted in research.
  • Rerun sits in one of 2026's hottest categories — "Physical AI," a $17M seed round, with visualizations used by Meta, Google, Hugging Face and Unitree.
