Brand Identity for Culture House Sunderland
Two initials rotate into a house for a city’s shared living room.
Studio Blackburn created a flexible identity for Culture House Sunderland, a multi-purpose public building within the Riverside Sunderland regeneration project. The system uses a rotating C&H monogram that forms a house shape, extending across wayfinding, print, digital screens, animation, and community photography.
Insights- The C&H monogram rotates into a house silhouette, connecting the initials with the idea of a shared civic living room.
- Blackburn intensified the muted colours already selected for each floor’s finishes. The palette connects the physical venue with a stronger digital presence.
- The house becomes a modular frame for community photography and a structure for wayfinding, carrying the same idea across communication and navigation.
- Animated typography extends the architectural device onto screens and social channels, giving the identity behaviour as well as a static mark.
- The venue’s mix of library, creative studios and event spaces explains the need for a flexible identity: it must welcome different kinds of participation under one name.
