Brand Identity for Black Healing Centre
They made a community-rooted identity ready for institutional rooms.
Six Cinquième developed a modern, culturally affirming identity for the Black Healing Centre as it expands beyond Montreal. The system pairs a functional bilingual logo with blossom-root iconography, expressive illustrations, and playful serif-led typography to balance grassroots warmth with institutional credibility.
Insights- Black Healing Centre needed to expand beyond Montreal, diversify funding, and eventually own a physical space without losing its community-rooted warmth—the tension the redesign had to hold.
- Six Cinquième kept the original spirit instead of replacing it: the launch line was “new look, same heart,” and the system preserves floral imagery while upgrading to a functional bilingual English/French logo.
- The new icon combines a rooted human form with a blossom, turning ideas of personal growth and community connection into one mark; the studio also used playful serif italics, unexpected alignments, and broken margins to keep the brand credible without feeling stiff.
- The identity came out of a co-creative workshop with community members and was shaped by the shorthand “Radical, Cool Auntie” — joyful, approachable, unapologetic, and grounded in history.
- The work sits in a real mental-health access gap: BHC offers free or subsidized therapeutic care, intergenerational programs, discussion groups, retreats, and practitioner training, while Concordia notes culturally grounded support remains hard to access for Black communities across Canada.
