Typeface Revival For A Historical Printing Company
Schick Toikka successfully revived the typeface Kaart Antieke, originally published by Lettergieterij Amsterdam in 1909. The revival process involved careful examination of the remaining printed images rather than the metal type itself. This allowed the studio to faithfully replicate the impression of the original typeface while preserving unique features associated with letterpress printing. The resulting Trio Grotesk typeface offers three weights plus italics, broad language support through Latin Extended character sets, and a variety of OpenType features, including numeral sets, arrows, ornaments, and dingbats. The design emphasizes a softly structured appearance with loose spacing and a dignified profile, making it suitable for various modern applications.
