Brand Identity for BLOCS Landscape Architecture Studio
People seen from above become a variable identity for the spaces they share.
Need Thinking overhauled the brand identity, communications, website, social media, and print materials for California landscape architecture and urban design studio BLOCS. The new system combines a variable, people-inspired logo, custom typeface, Inter, and a visual language informed by community spaces in Los Angeles.
Insights- An aerial view of people gathering informs the logo; variable dot size, colour and animation speed let it adjust to different audiences.
- Need made a typeface from the logo and paired it with Inter, extending the central idea into typography.
- A graphic language derived from the logo addresses inconsistent project photography and the lack of people imagery.
- Approved language and copy guidelines tackle an operational problem: helping the team explain its difference consistently when bidding for work.
