Concept and Visual Identity for Quartz Ring-Based Ledger
Digital trust… built on a ring? Infinity Gauntlet vibes, minus the stones.
Modem collaborated with Swiss design studio Retinaa to envision QUARTZ, a ring-based ledger that redefines digital trust in the age of AI. Combining cryptography, biometrics, and natural quartz stones, the project explores how physical gestures and materials can restore authenticity to digital interactions.
Insights
- The project frames QUARTZ like an “Infinity Gauntlet: beginning” moment—using a wearable ring as the origin story for a new kind of digital power: trust you can physically hold and gesture with, rather than trust you merely click.
- Modem and Swiss studio Retinaa envisioned QUARTZ as a ring-based ledger that merges cryptography + biometrics, proposing that authenticity can be verified through physical gestures instead of purely screen-based interactions.
- The concept intentionally anchors a high-tech system in natural quartz stones, using materiality as a design decision to counter the slippery, synthetic feel of AI-era digital identity.
- Positioned as a brand identity in the technology space, the visual direction leans futuristic/minimalist/technological—supporting the narrative of “post-password” trust while keeping the object (the ring) as the hero.
