Identity and poster design for a medical conference series
A medical conference identity that looks halfway between a DNA sequence and a diagnostic readout.
André Cruz created the identity and poster system for the first Porto Precision Diagnostics Meeting, designed in 2024 and held at IPATIMUP on 16 January 2025. Dedicated to liquid biopsies in cancer, the system draws on formal representations of DNA and diagnostic colour codes, combining soft red and grey 3D forms with repeated machine like typography and animation.
Insights
- The visual system pairs two opposite kinds of information. Soft red 3D forms feel biological and uncertain, while repeated black text feels procedural, measured and machine readable.
- Underscores turn the conference title into something closer to a file name or genetic sequence. In animation, language becomes a stream of data rather than a static heading.
- Liquid biopsy gives the abstraction a human centre. The technique can find genetic material released by a tumour in a blood sample, so the identity's interest in coded information is closely tied to the subject of the meeting.
