Living Up to Death is an experimental theatre project by City Contemporary Dance Company that combines dance, installation, text, and video within The Box to create an unorthodox laboratory-like performance space. The project invites audiences into a tranquil yet unfamiliar environment shaped around the idea of rebirth. The studio developed the identity and print materials for the 2023 production, helping frame the work’s contemporary, immersive, and reflective character for the performing arts context.
This project created the identity for Mr. Blank 2.0, a contemporary dance work by City Contemporary Dance Company. Set in a surveillance-saturated, data-driven world, the production explores fractured identity, disorientation, awakening, and the search for truth through movement, projection, cinematography, and cross-media performance. The studio developed a print-focused identity system that reflects the work’s fragmented, multi-dimensional narrative and its tense digital atmosphere. Reimagined under Artistic Director Sang Jijia, the 2025 version builds on the production’s 2018 debut while introducing a fresh ensemble and renewed visual language.
Studio output created the identity for Stream of Dust, a 2022 project for City Contemporary Dance Company in the performing arts field. Inspired by swirling dust that gathers, disperses, and marks the passage of time, the work frames the performance as both billowy and static, reflecting human polarities and emotional extremes. The identity translates these ideas into a poetic visual language for a spectating space, supported by photography by Pazu Chan.
An identity for A Triple Bill, a new programme in The Connected Stage series by City Contemporary Dance Company. The project frames three choreographic works by William Forsythe, Hung Tsai-hsi, and Sita Ostheimer, each offering a distinct perspective on the body, movement, and cultural exchange. The studio developed printed identity materials for the 2025 performing arts programme, capturing the energy, emotion, and multiplicity of contemporary dance. The result supports a launch that positions the series as a platform for diverse artistic voices and experimental performance.
City Contemporary Dance Festival is Hong Kong’s leading contemporary dance event, presented by City Contemporary Dance Company. The project focused on identity design for the festival, which brings together artists from Hong Kong and abroad with local audiences, curators, programmers, and practitioners. Through performances, seminars, workshops, and artistic exchange, the festival supports the growth of contemporary dance in the region while strengthening international collaboration. The work also included print applications for the 2023 edition in the performing arts sector.
This 2022 project for City Contemporary Dance Company centered on identity work for Pa | Ethos, a performing arts piece exploring the relationship between bodily movement and thought. The case references two works, Tableaux and Keep Dancing, framing them as a dialogue between stillness and rhythm, body and mind, and dance and philosophy. The studio translated these themes into an identity system supported by motion and print applications, helping express the project’s stripped-back choreography and interdisciplinary nature. Photography was by Pazu Chan.
