Pentagram created the identity and campaign for the 2026 BFI London Film Festival, connecting its 70th edition with the physical craft of cinema. Marina Willer and her team drew the logo from the illuminated National Film Theatre signage at BFI Southbank, originally designed in 1957. For the campaign imagery, coloured light was projected through specially made LFF cut-outs onto a dark surface. Filming and photographing that process captured letterforms emerging through changing light, colour and shadow. Maxwell Sterling composed the accompanying ident sound. Haptik by Grilli Type provides the supporting typography, with alternate characters adding variation to short headlines. Light blue joins the festival’s familiar deep purple and warm pink. Together, the historic reference, tactile production process and expanded palette frame the festival as a public celebration of watching films together.
