AREA 17’s identity for National Gallery of Canada represents their move towards decolonisationThe Brand Identity · Aug 18, 2021
AREA 17 developed a new identity for the National Gallery of Canada that reflects the institution’s move toward decolonisation and inclusivity. The design draws on the Algonquin word ‘Ankosé,’ meaning ‘everything is connected,’ and features a flexible system of gradients, geometric shapes, and bilingual typography. Founders Grotesk was chosen for its balance of timelessness and accessibility, supporting a visual language that bridges Western and Indigenous perspectives.
