The Design Office of David McGillivray conceived, designed and built Archiv as an independent project within its Think With Your Eyes incubator. The app turns photographs of physical objects into archival images, correcting perspective and lighting while preserving the objects’ imperfections, then identifies and researches them. Its identity connects preservation with utility: a tightly spaced, ligature-rich wordmark recalls carved lettering, while restrained typography and fine lines keep the interface focused on the collection. Custom pictograms add small symbolic scenes. A card-based interaction system takes inspiration from archive drawers, allowing objects to overlap, stack and rearrange. During onboarding, users photograph their first object before taking a guided tour, so processing happens while they learn the interface.
Hedroom is an independent music-sharing platform conceived, designed and built by the Design Office of David McGillivray through Think With Your Eyes. It makes room for loops, fragments and experiments alongside finished tracks. Instead of conventional release artwork, users create audio-reactive artifacts and arrange them freely in personal Listening Rooms. An Artifact Studio combines shapes, particles, freehand drawing and imported images with controls for materials, lighting and colour. Individual visual properties can respond to different elements of the audio. Hardware-inspired sliders and knobs give the studio a technical character, while blurred transitions and an animated wordmark establish a softer surrounding identity. On the homepage, a continuous conveyor of curated artifacts makes browsing music a visual experience.
